Yesterday I had to work in the city again for an all day meeting. I dislike leaving my son and being so far away from home, but I am so much in love with the feeling of being right smack dab in the big down town!
Typically I leave the night before and stay in a nice hotel just 1 block away from my work. I arrive around 8ish, check in and then check their movie listing (they always have awesome movies that have not come out on DVD yet, something I look forward to every trip), brew up some decaf coffee, then just have some quiet time. Very nice!
The problem with going the night before is it breaks my heart having to say good night to my son over the phone. I hate not being able to tuck him in, read him his favorite stories and making sure he has all his lovies in bed with him.
So I chose to wake up at the rooster crow of dawn and drag myself to the big city. I am not a morning person in the least. I was talking to my best friend on the way home and her comment to me was “wow, im shocked you were able to get out of bed that early”. Yep, it’s that bad. Anyways, I woke up at 5 got dressed and performed and all other morning beautifying routines necessary for a big business trip. Then I started driving. The sun was not even up yet! I had to stop for gas, and I was shocked at the amount of people that were out and about at 6am. The amount of people that were driving around, walking around and entering and exiting the gas station was astounding. These people are crazy!! As I was pumping my gas and looking at all of the probably normal people who get up every day at the rooster crow of dawn and drive their happy tired selves to work, I popped a 5 hour energy shot becaust that was the only thing that was going to get this mama through the next 3 hours of driving time that I had. Thank the good lord above I don’t have to do this every day!!
Anyways again – I’m rambling – I do that. I love the city! I love the feeling I get when I am driving and I am 1 turn away from seeing the huge sky-scrappers up close. I make the turn and voila it’s my life I never had but probably would have if I hadn’t decided to stay in my small town and be super happy. I get to use these 1 sometimes 2 times per month trips to the big city to be my ulter ego super chic business woman. Turns out I was an hour early for my meeting. I gave myself extra time for traffic delays, etc. So I park my car at the mall shopping lot so I can window shop a bit on my way to work. I’m starving and my energy shot is starting to make me shaky so I walk to the Qdoba that has a huge sign that says open for breakfast, why not. I pop in the lady is super nice, says hi and helps me decide what i want for breakfast (again, not a morning person so not familiar with the breakfast menu at Qdoba). I get my breakfast (quesadilla-chicken, scrambled eggs, tomato salsa and cheese, so yummy) and find a seat that is directly in front of a huge window that is looking out onto the street. This is perfect for me. I get to do my favorite thing…watch all of the super cool looking business people walk themselves to their jobs wearing their super chic outfits. I’m telling you I was in heaven, this probably sounds weird but I love to look at their fashion choices. These women wear beautiful shoes that probably kill their feet but who cares they look awesome! I make mental notes as to what I should do to tweak my wardrobe to look more fashionable in my small town.
Not much but ramblings in this post but I just wanted to let you all know how much of a city lover I am for 1 maybe 2 days out of each month. I get to be a super business woman who wears fashionista business type clothing. Then the magical aura wears off and I am desperately trying to beat the traffic and the clock on my 3 hour drive home to get to my son 1 minute earlier than the GPS says because I just want to squeeze his tiny body and hear him say “I miss you mama”. He makes my world go round.
